real people, real music, real entertainment

Hi,
Were in the process of looking for a singer for our band (Lost Boys).Ive tried the websites looking for musos and there crap! The ads are mosly well out of date and are a waste of time.
Weve also noticed the "X" factor creeping in at auditions? You get a guy who is rubbish and they say things like"well my mates say I can sing " or "my girlfriend thinks Im the b*******!"
Anyone got some ideas where else to look as were losing the will to live + were having to cancel gigs while were looking (Ouch!!)
Cheers Terry.

Hi Terry,
I know what you mean as I've had people drop out of bands and searched around for good replacements. It is hard to know where to start nowadays BUT I would recommend trying the jam sessions out.
I know you'll inevitable get the bloke who wants to do his Rock n Roll Medley an other such awful asides but then sometimes you find someone young talented and most useful of all, NOT committed to a million other projects (which I'm sure you know can be equally annoying)
This is how I got the Singer for my Soul Funk band and she's proved to be a amazing assett
Oh and ofcourse the final most important element IS You can hear them without having to go through the dreaded audition process (which always makes it harder to say NO if they are S***)
Hope that helps

Hi Rob,
Thanks for the reply.
Its funny but we had a singer who was about 15-20 yrs younger than us and what a pain!!! He thought we were a load of old farters living in the past and didnt know what we were talking about? Glad when he went!
Im going for a jam tonight with my old bass player and were trying two drummers and a singer. The singer weve heard before and is excellent, the drummers? who knows?
I`ll let you know how it goes?
Cheers,
Terry

Hey Terry,
Ahhh Singers. I remember in one of my early bands we had to auditions guys for the job. Never forgotten this one guy who turned up with this woman who was twice his age, married and his manager. They seemed a bit too friendly for a proffessional relationship if you asked me..
Worst of all his audition song was U2 "still haven't found what I'm looking for", My suggestion was singing lessons might be a start
It's so important to get the right mix of folk though. Drummers/bassist are few an far between and some are free cause no one in their right minds wants to work with them..

Good Luck and see ya around

Good luck Terry! Jon, here, guitarist with About Time 2. Only met once at the London Road Studios where I asked about getting a new neck and wilkinson trem fitted to my 80's Jap Charvel. It's coming, I promise! Spoke to Les recently (Legend) and understand you might have a new project in the offing. Good luck and keep rocking!
