Online profiles-the way forward or a con for musicians?

Everywhere you turn, bands, emerging singer-songwriters, djs trying to make a mark. Myspace being a wellknown host for numerous acts across the world, similar patern spreading to facebook, musicnation, ilike, youtube and many more I've not had a chance to discover.

Is it actually in aid for the creative folk out there?

Surly the more ways that a band, emerging singer-songwriter, dj can 'expose' themselves is a good thing?

Yeah, there might be a few unscrupulous people out there trying to con hardworking musos out of their wedge giving little, if anything in return. But any publicity is good publicity right? How many times have we seen that in the past? Playing Devil's Advocate, you could argue that these profile and social network sites are a chance for 'musicians' to con others. The cream rises to the top, the crud sinks.
